So on last Monday (3/15/2021), I watched "VH1 Family Reunion: Love and Hip Hop Edition". Just as a preface, I love the "Family Reunion". In case you don't know, the premise of the show is that it's some of the stars from every LHH franchise (NY, ATL, & MIA) are all in one resort having a "family reunion" of some sort. The cast members that are there are Yandy, Mendeecees, and Judy (From Love and Hip Hop: New York), Fizz, Apryl, Ray J, and Paris (From Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood), Momma Dee, Scrappy, Bambi, Erica Dixon, Young Joc, Karlie Redd, and Sierra Gates (From Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta), Trina, Joy, and Trick Daddy (From Love and Hip Hop: Miami). Some of the cast of the Family Reunion.  From Left to Right: Ray J, Yandy, Trick Daddy, Jock, and Karlie Redd As I stated earlier, I actually love this show. I'm a watcher of reality TV. For the most part, I watch all types of reality shows. I enjoy "First 48", "Jersey Shore", "Life After Lockup", "Iyanla, Fix My Life", the Real Housewives franchise, and etc. The list goes on and on.   Now a lot can be said about watching these shows. People love to call it trashy TV. I guess in some ways I can understand why due to the fighting and arguing that tends to happen a lot. But let's be honest, humanity isn't pretty. We shouldn't only want reality TV to show only the best of us. We get messy, we fight, we lie, we preserve, we succeed, we come together, and we are so much more. Reality TV is supposed to capture all of that. And yes, we can get into how production plays a HUGE role in it, but for the most part reality TV captures snapshots of how humanity is. And the thing is, there ARE some positive shows, but they don't do as well. But this post isn't about that. Lately due to the lo...

The Kernel (A Short Story)

The Kernel By Alexandra Jean  1 The gentle tones of the phone alarm sang through the air. It cut across a silence that lived in the house for the past seven hours and fell upon Elena’s ears. As per usual, the sweet melodic tones didn’t wake Elena up. With a soft push, her husband Sidney attempted to wake her up.  “Honey.” He said half to her and half to his pillow. She stirred but she couldn’t wake up. Stuck in the alternate reality that was her dream. She was in Georgia, where her aunt lived, and she stood outside of their home. She was chasing chickens and trying to open up the roadside stand that they had. Elena felt determined to start work so she would chase the chickens for a few seconds, then drop it to start stacking the produce on the table, then proceeded to go back to the chickens. She finally completed the task all while munching on a head of iceberg lettuce.  “Elena.” Her aunt said suddenly standing next to her. She looked over at her aunt with her striki...
